Skills and achievement

Community and well-being

You can start where you are

You do not need to be fit or flexible before beginning, and prior Taekwondo experience is not required. Instructors can discuss your goals and ways to approach training within your abilities.

Expect a warm-up, foundational technique and guided practice. Wear comfortable clothes that allow movement and bring water. Uniforms are not required for all classes, and training is usually barefoot. Any equipment needed will be provided to beginners.

Train for your own goals

Recreational participation is welcome without pressure to compete. Ask instructors about progression, sparring, poomsae and competition preparation. Training can support personal achievement and well-being through activity and community.

Class eligibility and accommodations

The Adult Taekwondo class is for ages 15+ and includes some youth. Adult registration forms are for participants aged 18 or older; participants under 18 must use the youth workflow.

Ask about accommodations and review the facility access information before registering. Specialized conditioning and self-defence options have their own availability, shown below.

Land acknowledgement

True North Taekwondo acknowledges that we gather, train, and serve our community on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. We recognize the Cree, Saulteaux, Dene, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota, and Métis peoples whose relationships with these lands span generations.

For us, a land acknowledgement is more than a statement about where we train. It is a reminder of how we want to live and serve together. The tenets of Taekwondo—courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit—help guide that responsibility. Courtesy calls us to listen and treat others with respect. Integrity asks us to be honest about our shared history and accountable for our actions. Perseverance reminds us that reconciliation and relationship-building require ongoing effort. Self-control calls us to act thoughtfully and with humility. Indomitable spirit encourages us to stand against exclusion and work toward a community in which everyone has the opportunity to belong.

Guided by the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action 87–91 on Sport and Reconciliation, we are committed to listening, learning, building respectful relationships, reducing barriers to participation, and creating a Taekwondo community in which Indigenous participants and families are welcomed, respected, and able to participate fully.
