Build more than martial arts skills

Confidence through practice

Small challenges give children opportunities to try, persevere and celebrate their own progress.

Movement for growing bodies

Playful practice develops balance, coordination and physical literacy.

Friendship and respect

Learning together encourages positive social interaction and Taekwondo values.

Your child’s first class

Children can expect an introduction to the training space, a warm-up, simple movements and instructor-guided practice. No previous Taekwondo experience is necessary. Activities and expectations depend on the class and your child’s readiness.

Wear comfortable clothes that allow movement and bring a water bottle. Uniforms are not required for all classes, and training is usually barefoot. Any equipment needed will be provided to beginners.

Parents and caregivers can help children feel comfortable and share broad support needs with instructors. TNT Titans requires a parent or caregiver to participate with their child. Non-participating parents may observe programming.

Choose by age and readiness

This pathway is for families exploring options for children approximately ages 3–11. Contact TNT about younger children and overlapping age ranges; a planned program is not an open class.

Safe, encouraging instruction

Instructors set respectful expectations and adapt challenges to age and readiness. Participation follows TNT’s registration, insurance, waiver and guardian-consent requirements. Review our Safe Sport policies to better understand how we train.

Land acknowledgement

True North Taekwondo acknowledges that we gather, train, and serve our community on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. We recognize the Cree, Saulteaux, Dene, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota, and Métis peoples whose relationships with these lands span generations.

For us, a land acknowledgement is more than a statement about where we train. It is a reminder of how we want to live and serve together. The tenets of Taekwondo—courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit—help guide that responsibility. Courtesy calls us to listen and treat others with respect. Integrity asks us to be honest about our shared history and accountable for our actions. Perseverance reminds us that reconciliation and relationship-building require ongoing effort. Self-control calls us to act thoughtfully and with humility. Indomitable spirit encourages us to stand against exclusion and work toward a community in which everyone has the opportunity to belong.

Guided by the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action 87–91 on Sport and Reconciliation, we are committed to listening, learning, building respectful relationships, reducing barriers to participation, and creating a Taekwondo community in which Indigenous participants and families are welcomed, respected, and able to participate fully.
